Descriptif

Conférence organisée par le département de physique.

Exposé de Gregory Falkovich en deux parties sur le phénomène de turbulence des fluides.

I start from a brief introduction to turbulence as far-from-equilibrium state of any system with many degrees of freedom. Examples will be taken not only from fluids and plasma, but also from condensed matter, atomic physics and optics. I then describe turbulence cascades and focus on what universal features one can distinguish at the scales in between pumping and dissipation scales. The main focus will be on symmetries of turbulence statistics. The central notion is anomaly : finite effect of symmetry breaking at the limit when symmetry-breaking factor tend to zero. On the other hand, I’ll describe emerging conformal invariance in turbulent inverse cascades.
