Conférence donnée par Julian Reid dans le cadre de la Chaire Géopolitique du Risque organisée par le département de Géographie de l'ENS, sur le thème de la résilience.
Julian Reid, a theorist, philosopher, and Professor of International Relations at the University of Lapland, discusses his new research on indigeneity. The concept of indigeneity is anchored on Reid’s earlier works on resilience, which he defines as an endemic exposure to danger or our inability to protect ourselves from dangers. The main focus for Reid is the question of how indigeneity is framed in international politics today as a phenomenon of resilience. Reid focuses on the way in which indigenous people are being identified as exemplary forms of resilient subjects, and therefore, are linking the discourses of indigeneity and politics of resilience with the neo-liberal strategy of resilience. Reid discusses the changes in societal perception of security, our ability to transcend danger, and growing embrace of resilience, our ability to assume risk and live with uncertainty.
